Tacit Knowledge and Explicit Knowledge

As for the concept of knowledge management, the division between tacit and implicit knowledge was viewed as the most important one for skilled utilization of the organizational capital. It is pertinent to categorize these two forms of knowledge since they are applied differently in individual and organizational settings to greatly improve the way we organize and apply information ( (Lesjak, 2021).

Tacit Knowledge

The definition of Tacit Knowledge goes in the line with the description that it is the type of knowledge that is contextual and difficult to express in APA. An important concept which, simply put, is the practical, hard-won knowledge based on real-life experiences, techniques and ideas. The type of knowledge, which might be imparted in such a situation, is mostly situation-dependent and can hardly be captured on paper. For instance, a master cook’s fine tuning of the food in a recipe or a discerning negotiator’s sense of the other person’s signals constitutes a part of tacit knowledge (max, 2020). This one is attained through experience, and it is more often than not transmitted from one person to the other through imitation, tutoring, and even sharing of ideas in person as opposed to writing down the ideas.

Explicit Knowledge

EKT is formal and easily communicated as it is documented on the organization's repository. This knowledge comprises information that is easy to put into words and turn into procedure-like instructions to be disseminated among people. Such knowledge is either documented in manuals, textbooks and other documents, databases or any other written or electronic form. For example, a firm’s working practices, mathematical algorithms, and reports are considered as an express knowledge. It is not random, and knowledge dissemination can occur with regards to people and organizations through words of mouth or even through writing.

Indeed, a combination of both the tacit and the explicit knowledge is crucial to the achievement of an organization’s goals. Although rather than identifying the specific knowledge embedded in the organizational memory, it is more often than not the tacit knowledge that is at the core of creation and new solution generation. Both types of knowledge are apprehended by successful organizations, which practice approaches to capturing, transferring, and applying them (Khatun, 2018).

For example, the written documents may be managed through the knowledge management system as the repository for the explicit knowledge while at the same time encouraging knowledge sharing and exchange of the tacit knowledge. Hence, they can boost their solutions, optimize their operations, and sustain their advantage.

Tacit and explicit knowledge as a framework of information classification helps the individuals and organizations in better management of information resources. When implemented, theories can cause better decisions, sparkling solutions and general success of those involved, if integrated by the informal yet vital knowledge of experts

Conclusion

Tacit and explicit knowledge as a framework of information classification helps the individuals and organizations in better management of information resources. When implemented, theories can cause better decisions, sparkling solutions and general success of those involved, if integrated by the informal yet vital knowledge of experts.
